How to cut out parts of an audio file
- Open an MP3 or WAV file, or try the demo.
- Drag across the waveform over the part you want to remove. It turns red and appears in the cut list. You can also type exact times and press Add cut.
- Repeat for every section you want gone: mistakes, coughs, off-topic parts or long silences.
- Fine-tune any cut by editing its times in the list. Use Hear to play the original around a cut, and untick a cut to keep that part after all.
- Press Preview result to hear the edit, then prepare your MP3 or WAV download.
Planning your cuts
- Cut between words, not through them. Start and end each cut in a quiet moment. Zoom in mentally by entering times to two decimals.
- Leave a little air. Removing every trace of a pause makes speech sound rushed. Leave about 0.2 to 0.4 seconds between sentences.
- Overlapping cuts are fine. They are combined automatically, and the summary shows the total time removed.
- Find pauses automatically under the optional panel if you also want long silences shortened.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the audio cutter?
The audio cutter keeps one section. This tool removes as many sections as you like and joins what remains, like cutting mistakes out of a recording.
Will the joins click?
Each join gets an 8-millisecond fade on both sides, which is too short to hear as a fade but prevents clicks.
Can I undo a cut?
Yes. Untick it or press Remove in the cut list. Your original file is never changed.
